7.24.2010
Starts at: 5:00 p.m.
End at: 10:30 p.m.
The show sometimes referred to as the “Saturday Night Live” of Southwest Louisiana will return Saturday, July 24.
Tickets are now on sale for the Ad & Press Club’s 38th annual Gridiron Show. The fundraiser— which pokes fun at local and state newsmakers and the media through skits, songs, monologues and videos — will be in the Lake Charles Civic Center’s Sudduth Coliseum.
This year’s theme — “Saints and Sinners” — is a nod to the New Orleans Saints’ 2010 Super Bowl win as well as local and statewide newsmakers, or “sinners,” who stirred up controversy in the past year.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for a social and networking hour. During that time, guests can dine at several serving stations that will feature heavy hors d’ouevres and other specialties from local restaurants and vendors. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Proceeds from the show will benefit students at McNeese State University through the club’s permanent scholarship foundation and fund the Commercial Arts Department at Sowela Technical Community College.
The Ad & Press Club is Southwest Louisiana’s oldest organization for communications professionals. Gridiron is written, staged and performed entirely by club members.
Brett Downer, president of Outsourced Media Group and a longtime area writer and newsman, is the show’s director. Heather Fazzio Partin of 92.9 The Lake is the assistant director and Marty Myers of Fox 29 is the technical director.
Each year Gridiron awards the Pan Award — a trophy made from a cast iron skillet — to the newsmaker who gets “panned” the most in the show. Last year’s recipient was KPLC-TV.
Tickets are $60 per person and $400 for a table of eight. Several levels of sponsorships are available. The deadline to buy tickets is Wednesday, July 21, and seating is limited.
